Tetri's Journey with Magic Mitti: A Story of Stability, Hope, and Climate Action

Since joining Magic Mitti in April 2023, Tetri, a wastepicker and a 32-year-old mother of three, has witnessed a profound transformation in her life. Prior to this, she struggled with the physically exhausting and financially precarious task of traveling long distances to collect and sort waste.
Her new chapter with Magic Mitti began with comprehensive training in composting and waste management. This training not only equipped her with the skills to produce high-quality compost but also introduced her to a structured and supportive work environment. Thus, creating a green livelihood for her.
Now, Tetri spends two hours a day at the Magic Mitti facility, managing her workload flexibly. “Some days, I work for one hour or more, depending on the weather, the condition of the compost, or if I need to sieve it. When relatives visit from the village, I may not need to work more than an hour. But I never have to walk the streets anymore, picking up someone’s discarded trash,” she shares.
Today, Tetri enjoys a newfound sense of stability. Her steady income allows her to support her family, contribute to her children's education, and keep up with rising living costs. "I've even managed to open savings accounts for my children, which feels like a secure step toward their future," she proudly says. Beyond financial security, Tetri's role at Magic Mitti has given her a renewed sense of purpose and a brighter outlook on life, offering her the hope she once struggled to find.
Thanks to the generous funds raised by Sparkle Gift, leading to the development of composting pits at Magic Mitti has improved Tetri's workplace, making her daily tasks more efficient and manageable. Through her work, she is also playing a vital role in fighting climate change by reducing methane emissions.
